Environmentally talking…our stance in a nutshell

Royston Labels is committed to becoming greener as a company and aiming to reduce the impact on the environment through the use of materials and processes that reduce the risk of pollution.

As a business, we comply with all relevant legislation and base our operation on sound environmental policies.

Royston Labels seek to continually develop environmental solutions. These manifest as:
  • Reducing manufacturing waste
  • Implementing greener, more efficient working practices
  • Searching for more environmentally friendly products and printing techniques
  • Including recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and thinner materials within our portfolio
  • Working closely with suppliers who can demonstrate their commitment to the environment

…and a word or two on PET

PET is a popular plastic package for food and non-food products because of its strength, thermo-stability and transparency. With world population growth, natural resources have come to a limit. This urges companies to look for more sustainable source of PET material.

At Royston Labels, we can offer both clear and opaque label materials that are 100% recyclable, and actually allow the old packaging to be re-manufactured into new bottles. This type of up-cycling promotes sustainability which is recognised throughout the supply chain - from brand owners & packaging designers to raw material suppliers, converters, & consumers.

Sustainability is key and for many brands can offer a significant point of differentiation. Retailers and consumers are both influenced by environmental factors, and more sustainable brands are becoming increasingly more popular.

The films we offer are very thin, and deliver the same quality and clarity as alternative label materials. These labels can be printed and decorated in just the same way as other material choices, so they’re an easy way to make PET packaging recyclable and safely reusable.

A star in our midst!

Being an aspiring young actor, it was only a matter of time before our very own David Battom (a Daniel Radcliffe look alike), landed a leading theatrical role. You see, when he is not involved in the despatch of our beautiful, high quality labels, David is a member of the highly acclaimed St John's Players amateur theatre group. The group, formed in 1947, is one of the oldest drama groups in the Cambridge area. They perform a wide variety of plays three times a year, including comedies, thrillers, modern-day and costume dramas.

David is playing his first leading role as Leonard Vole in the Agatha Christie classic, Witness for the Prosecution.  Performances take place over the period Wed 18th to Sat 21st Feb, starting at 7.30pm at The Fulbourn Centre, Home End, Fulbourn, Cambridge CB21 5BS. Box office details on 01223 210737 or www.ticketsource.co.uk/stjohnsplayers

As for the plot, the play is set in post-war London, where a young and charming Leonard Vole is being tried for the murder of a wealthy, elderly woman whom he befriended. She has left him her fortune in her will. Vole is defended by eminent QC, Sir Wilfrid Robarts, who is up against the formidable Miss Myers QC for the prosecution. Although the circumstantial evidence is damning, he has an alibi for the time of the murder. However, when the evidence from his mysterious wife, Romaine Heilger, comes out at the Old Bailey trial, the alibi unravels and all seems lost for Leonard as he faces the hangman's noose…

The production will undoubtedly be thrilling and will hopefully be a defining moment in David’s amateur acting career.

On behalf of everyone at Royston Labels, we wish David every success in his performances and hopes that he ‘breaks a leg’!

What's your mantra?

In an image-conscious beauty industry, product packaging is critical to market success. Working with the ‘Happiness Is’ brand to create innovative premium labels for their beauty & personal care products, Royston Labels has provided another example of applying technical expertise and utilisation of multi-process printing in developing innovative cost effective packaging for brands.

The silver labels were created by printing in up to 8 translucent colours onto a metallic base material, thereby providing a myriad of metallic effects. The process ensured that there were absolutely no gaps in the label from the shoulder of the tube up to the very top and end of the crimp, which produced a totally seamless effect.

The clear labels allowed the colour of the product to be seen, yet decoration was extended into the crimp area of the tube again giving an alternative and interesting look to the packaging.

The ‘Happiness Is mantra’ is dedicated to “achieving a higher state of happiness for everyone through positivity and optimism” - we are confident that our labels reflect a freshness and purity that embodies this statement.

To enhance your packaging please contact our sales team on +44 (0)1763 212020 and tell us what your ‘mantra’ is. Find out more at www.roystonlabels.co.uk/why-royston-labels/ innovations

New Innovative ‘Water Drops’ Holographic Polyester Film

When it comes to retailing your products, how do you make your product stand out amongst all the competition on the shelves?  Using different labelling effects may just help do the trick.

At Royston Labels, we are now offering a new holographic face material called ‘Water Drops’. The film is produced by laminating a metallised polyester film carrying the microembossed holographic face material, which results
in the water drops effect. This is effective as it can catch your customer’s eyes and cause them to look in the direction of your product.

Royston Labels can decorate this material using all of its different printing technologies and decoration techniques to visually enhance impact.

One of the many possible applications of this label could be car products or products that come into contact with or are used on wet services.

For further information and a sample, please call our sales department on 01763 212020 or you can email us at sales@roystonlabels.co.uk.

New regulations on food labelling - are you compliant?

From the 13th December 2014, new allergen labelling laws came into effect for food businesses (including street food and mobile catering) in the UK. The new piece of European legislation is called the Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU FIC) and it changes the way allergen information appears on labels and on food that is pre-packed, sold loose or served when you are eating outside of the home.

You can find detailed Department of Health guidance on creating a front of pack (FoP) nutrition label for pre-packed products sold through retail outlets here.

With the introduction of new labelling regulations, some companies in the food industry may find that their current label printing capabilities are not able to provide properly compliant labels for packed and processed foods. As information such as country of origin, nutritional information and allergens is now mandatory, it is important that this information be highlighted in such a way to make it stand out on the label.

At Royston Labels, we can help assist and give your company advice to ensure that your products will meet with these new regulations.

For more information, please call the sales team today on 01763 212020.
